Sunil Prashara
As President & Chief Executive Officer of the Project Management Institute (PMI), Sunil Prashara is the lead advocate for PMI’s global organization, serving more than three million professionals working in nearly every country worldwide.
Since joining PMI as CEO in March of 2019, Sunil has reinvigorated the association’s strategic vision and accelerated the implementation of a forward-leaning transformation program. He has established the 50-year-old association as a truly global and innovative enterprise serving a more comprehensive range of project professionals and change-makers worldwide.
Sunil’s key priorities have included expanding the PMI footprint globally, digitizing the organization’s offering to benefit its members through the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and advocating the value of project management to C-suite leaders and decision-makers from some of the world’s leading organizations.
During his tenure, critical accomplishments for the organization have included launching a bold and energetic new brand identity, driving two ground-breaking acquisitions to assume greater leadership in the Agile space, implementing a powerful new regional model, and crossing the threshold of one million active Project Management Professional® certification holders around the globe.
The CEO Publication has recognized Sunil as one of the Top 20 Dynamic CEOs of 2020 in the United Kingdom. Under his leadership, PMI has also received a range of industry awards. These honors include being named as one of the Top 100 Associations that Will Save the World by the American Society of Association Executives, and winning a Silver Stevie® award for corporate social responsibility in recognition of PMI’s partnership with the United Nations that saw the PMI community pledge over 150,000 hours of service aligned with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
An engaging and dynamic speaker, Sunil has presented on a variety of topics related to The Project Economy and the future of work at high-level forums around the globe, including events hosted by TED and the United Nations. He is widely recognized as a thought leader on emerging trends in the workplace, including gymnastic organizations, citizen development, and cultivating “Power Skills” to succeed in the age of automation.
Before joining PMI, he served as CEO of i1too Ltd in the U.K., a sales accelerator for digital start-ups, which he founded in 2016 and grew internationally. He previously served as CEO of Expereo International and held numerous executive leadership positions throughout the information and communications technology and telecommunications industries. His extensive multi-functional, cultural, geography experience includes managing sales, operations, and digital transformation for companies such as Vodafone, Nokia, Accenture, and Perot Systems (NTT). As a business executive, he has developed an appreciation for project management expertise and understands from an “outside-in” perspective on how PMI can expand its reach globally.
Sunil speaks Punjabi and Hindi. He is a graduate of the University of London and resides in the U.K. with his wife Kavita and two sons Kamran and Raghav. He enjoys golf, boxing, martial arts, and traveling.
